1. Procedures of Teaching
The first time I greeted them. I said good morning and asked about
their condition. I ask students to be ready for today's lesson. After that, I
asked the class leader to lead us to pray together before we began the lesson,
the last of which I asked about their presence. I gave them a video as
motivation related to the topic of how waves can be generated and propagated. I
asked for their opinion about the video. Students are very enthusiastic about
giving their opinions.
In the study step, I used a power point presentation with a
projector. I showed animated pictures of waves and examples and also benefits
of the wave. I displayed slides one by one and asked or told students to read
about the definition of electromagnetic waves and mechanical waves. I also told
students to gave examples of these waves based on the definitions they had
read.
In Activity, I made a game like a puzzle. I asked students to make
4 groups and then I gave envelopes to them which insides answer, and I showed
the questions on the slide. They must paste the answers on the board. Who is
the fastest and answers correctly, that group is the winner. I gave a prize to
the first winner as my appreciation for their work.
At the end of the learning process, I gave an evaluation of what
they had learned that day. I gave them 3 short questions about today's lesson
and I also gave them the assignment to read about the topic that we will
discuss in the next meeting which is about what are the types of waves.
2. Time Management and Organizing Activities
At NEUST Laboratory High School I teach for 2 hours per day. 1
hour in 7th grade Dalton and 1 hour in 7 Newton grades. Besides the lesson plan
I have made, the learning process was divided into 5 parts, there are:
- Preliminary Activities (greeting, pray, checking attendance, last topic review, and give motivation)
- Lesson Proper (presentation of the topic, discussion of the lesson)
- Application
- Generalization
- Evaluation
3. Problem Solving
During my teaching, the problem is about language. Not all
students can speak English. Moreover, I teach physics which uses many special
words. I have to think hard about how they can understand what I mean.
Sometimes I used body language to make them understand because I also can't
speak Tagalog. And another way that I use is to display animated images about
waves and also examples so that they are easier to understand it.
4. Classroom Management
It's not too difficult to manage the class at this first meeting.
They don't make noise, they shut up and pay attention to what I explained. It's
just, there are some students who are less active in the lesson. To get them
active and participate in lessons, I give them chocolate for anyone who answers
questions or gives their opinions.
This is the lesson plan that I used at the first meeting.
