SUMMARY AND SUGESTION

1.     Purposes of Practicum
In my opinion, the purpose of this practicum is to provide opportunities for pre-service students teacher to find out how the learning system in other countries. Through this program, the pre-student teacher can understand their teaching abilities. Besides that, pre-service students teacher can find out how the methods and strategies of other countries, curriculum and lesson plans they make, and also we can improve our communication skills using English. This program can also be a venue for cultural exchange. Living in other countries with different cultural and religious backgrounds is a challenge for us, this teaches us about autonomy. Through this program we learn a lot about how to make a good lesson plan, how to teach using methods and strategies that don't make students bored, we become more creative, innovative, and confident. This is an important thing for our future which will later become a teacher.

2.     Procedures of Practicum
I started my observation on the first week of the 3rd day. I followed my cooperating teacher in the 7th grade Newton and Dalton. I observed how my cooperating teacher taught. After that in the second week, I made observations and teaching assists. I not only observe but also help students who have difficulty understanding the material. My total observation hours and teaching assistants are 10 hours. because I do it 5 times, 2 hours every day. in the third week, I began my teaching practice. I teach from Monday to Thursday for 2 hours per day. So the total hours I get are 8 hours for teaching practice. At the fourth week, I did the final of my demo. this is the last time I teach and also this is the last time I come to NEUST Laboratory High School. The total hours I got from teaching assists to the final demo were 20 hours.

3.     Outcomes of Practicum
I got a lot of outcomes from this practicum. I learned to be a good and professional teacher. I learned to be responsible for everything entrusted to me. Starting from making lesson plans, determining learning methods and strategies to being responsible for making my class comfortable so students can receive lessons well. From this program I can improve my teaching skills, I know how to manage classes well, and I am able to handle the students with different characteristics. Besides that, my confidence and communication skills using English also increased.

4.     Practical Challenges
During my teaching practice, there were some challenges that I had. First is a language problem. When I teach, not all students understand English, especially I teach physics that uses a lot of special words. This is a challenge for me because I have to find a way to make students understand what I mean. Sometimes I use pictures, give examples, or use body language to make them understand. Second, I am a little difficult in terms of managing time in teaching. I only have 60 minutes in one meeting and I have to complete all the stages in my lesson plan starting from the preliminary activities to giving the assignment.

5.     Overall Impression
First, I say thank you very much for the implementation of this program because through this program there are so many benefits that I get. I met great people from other countries, we exchanged cultures and I get experiences that are very useful for my future. Again, through this program I can improve my confidence, responsibility, teaching skill, ability to communicate in English, I am able to live in another country that has a different religious and cultural background. I am very grateful and thankful to all parties behind this program. I have a very big appreciation for Seameo and this Sea teacher batch 7 programs.

6.     Suggestions for Future Improvements
The suggestions I can give to improve this program in the future is about the guideline for writing blogs. I am a little bit disappointed with the changes in the guideline. The guideline that was given in the last time different from what we listened during the orientation even though we had already made a few posts in our blog. I hope that in the future I can pay attention to that because the blog is included in the assessment of this program. Good luck always for the same and next batch of 8.

TEACHING PLAN

1.  Curriculum
At the basic education level, the Department of Education (DepEd) sets overall educational standards and mandates standardized test for the K–12 basic education system, although private schools are generally free to determine their own curriculum in accordance with existing laws and Department regulations. This is why NEUST Laboratory High School of the College of Education also conforms with the K to 12 law of the Philippines.

The Laboratory High School of NEUST is under the supervision of the College of Education. The Laboratory High School utilized a specialized curriculum which is inclined more in Science and Research. Although different, but it still conforms with the mandated curriculum by the DepEd. The Senior High School of the Laboratory High School offers strands in Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM), General Academics (GAS) and the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).

2.  Teaching Plan Related To Your Major
My Cooperating teacher gave me the opportunity to teach in two classes, they are 7th grade Newton and 7th grade Dalton. I have to make a lesson plan every time I will teach because my cooperating teacher asks that my lesson plan must be completed at each meeting. There are some sub-topics that I discussed in one meeting. Before I taught I showed my lesson plan to my cooperating teacher. He will give advice and correct a few wrong sentences in the lesson plan that I made. He asked me to make detailed lesson plan as an example of the lesson plan he gave me. This is the example of the lesson plan given by my cooperating teacher.

Day 15. Monday, January 28, 2019.
Back to Monday again. We always start with the flag ceremony. But today we did not attend it until it was finished because we had to left immediately to school. Today I am very nervous because this is the first day I will teach. my class starts at 7.30 a.m. while I am still on the way at that time. Sir Boyet could not accompany me to teach today because he attended the seminar. Instead, he asked ma'am Nakamura to accompany and observing me when I was teaching. First, I taught 7th grade Dalton. I continue the next chapter, which is about waves. I use powerpoint as my learning media.

I taught according to what I have written in the lesson plan. Began with greetings until asked about what they learned in the last meeting. Actually, I want to use kahoot as a learning media so that it can attract the attention of students, but as sir Boyet said that in this school students are not allow to using the telephone during lessons, as well as the internet connection here is very bad. Finally, I chose powerpoint as my learning media. I show a video as a brainstorm. My material that day was about how waves can be generated and propagated. I explained a little about this material and showed an example of those waves. In the application section, I made a game like a puzzle. I asked students to make 4 groups and then I gave envelopes to them which insides answers and i show the questions on the slide. They must paste the answers on the board. Who is the fastest and answers correctly, that group is the winner. I gave a prize to the first winner as my appreciation for their work. They are very enthusiastic to participate in this game.

After gave the prize for the winner I asked a few questions related to the material I had taught as a form of review. In the evaluation section, I told students to work on some of the questions that I displayed on the slide, this was intended to test their understanding. I did not give assignments to them, I just told them to study the material we will discuss in the next meeting. The same thing I did also in class after that, 7th grade Newton.

After I finished to teach, Ma'am Nakamura gave me some suggestions to improve my teaching skills at the next meeting. After that, I and my buddy went to the canteen to take lunch.

Day 16. Tuesday, January 29, 2019.
Today is the second day I teach. Not too nervous like yesterday, because today nobody observed me like yesterday. Today, ma'am Nakamura has a class and Sir Boyet are still attending the seminar. I taught 7th grade Dalton at 7:30 a.m. In this second meeting, I still use the same media, powerpoint. My material is about what are the types of waves. I present many animations about waves to make students easier to understand the type of waves. Finished explaining I gave games quiz again as a form of application. This time the game quiz is in the form of a crossword puzzle. I made a crossword puzzle and displayed the question on the slide. The type of this game is individual, anyone can answer as much as possible. I gave gifts to each student who answers with the correct answers and again they are very enthusiastic.

After playing, I gave the students some questions as a review based on what has been learned today. And as an evaluation, I gave a short question about this material. I gave them assignments to draw a picture of a transverse and longitudinal wave along with the characteristics.
I gave the same treatment in 7th grade Newton but they were more enthusiastic than Dalton.

Day 17. Wednesday, January 30, 2019.
Today I feel nervous again. This is the third day I will be teach and sir Boyet will observe me today. Even though I have prepared everything well but I still nervous. Today I continue to the next topic but still in the same chapter that is about what are the properties of waves. I still used powerpoint as my learning media. I displayed animated images in it. In the application section, I told students to make 6 groups then asked them to draw the shape of the properties of waves. In the middle of activities, sir Boyet told that all students must gather in the auditorium because today there was a seminar about Anti Illegal Drug Summit. They present special guests at the event, he is the former Chief of the Philippine National Police who served from 2016 to 2019. He is Ronald Marapon dela Rosa or more famously known as Bato dela Rosa. I can't finish my class today because they have to gather. Therefore sir Boyet told me that the activities in the application step is used as an assignment and they must collect it tomorrow. I do not forget to inform the two classes (Dalton and Newton) that tomorrow there will be an evaluation of the chapter that we have finished discussing, it's about waves.

After I finished teaching, I attended the seminar in the auditorium and it was a good fortune that I could take a picture with Bato dela Rosa.

After the event, we decided to go back to the hostel, take a rest and prepare everything to teach tomorrow.

Day 18. Thursday, January 31, 2019.
As I have told in the last meeting that today there will be an evaluation of the chapter we have discussed, it's about waves. I have 20 questions in this evaluation. 10 questions in the form of identifications and 10 questions in the form of matching types. In the identification types, I make a statement and then the student must identify the correct answer from the statement. While in the matching type, I write the statement and also the answer beside the statement but I make it random. Students just need to match the exact answer to the statement.

Today I did not explain the material, I only gave evaluations to Dalton and Newton class. But I gave a review before giving an evaluation to students. I asked them some questions about the chapter of waves, it turned out they could answer all my questions smoothly. After 15 minutes of review, I shared the evaluation paper and gave students 30 minutes to solve the questions that I had shared. After finished, they collecting it and then I gave it back randomly to corrected their answers. After finished, I asked the students to give back the paper to me. I closed the lesson and met Sir Boyet in his office to give him the evaluation paper.

Today is January 31. This day is the birthday of  Janu, one of my friends from Solo. The teachers have prepared a surprise for him in the principal's room. Me and all my friend waiting for Janu at there.  Around 9 o'clock we celebrated his birthday with Laboratory High School's teachers, after that we ate together. While waiting for my friends who were still teaching, ma'am Sonia invited me, Dada, and some buddies to buy a jacket because tomorrow we will go to Baguio, one of the cold places in the Philippines. When we finished buying our jackets, we back to the principal's office to wait for some of our friends. After that, we back to the hostel to Lunch and rest.

In the evening, Janu got another surprise from the people who worked at the hostel where we lived. They gave a surprise not only for Janu but also for Dada, because of Dada's birthday on February 11, and at that time we had back to Indonesia.

They gave me, Dada, and Mutia a doll. We are very happy because they are all so nice and warm. After this surprise, we had dinner together. This long day was closed by manicure, pedicure, and massage by several students brought by Ma'am Sonia. Maraming Salamat :)

Day 19. Friday, February 01, 2019.
After being busy with the lesson plan every day, finally today we had a little refreshing before our final demo on Monday. Today we went to an excursion at the Baguio, one of the vacation places in the highlands. The temperature there is around 17 degrees Celsius. We went to the Baguio with ma'am Ange, ma'am Theresa, and ma'am Jane. They picked us up at the hostel at 4 a.m.

The first time we saw a drum band along the Harrison road. We stopped about 30 minutes to saw the show. After that, we went to Burnham Park. We walked around to saw the scenery and didn't forget to take pictures.

We also tried to ride bicycles around the park. After more than an hour, we decided to continue the trip to Mines View Park. There, we saw the scenery from the top of the hill, we tried traditional Filipino clothes and then we took pictures together. After being satisfied with taking pictures, we hunt for souvenirs there. We buy various kinds of souvenirs such as key chains, fridge magnets, t-shirts, and miniature jeepney.

After shopping, we continued the journey to the last destination, The Mansion. There, we just took pictures for a while then went to Jollibee for lunch. After finishing lunch we back to Cabanatuan city. At 7 p.m. we just arrived at the hostel because of the traffic jam. We take a shower, have dinner then rest.

Day 20. Saturday, February 02, 2019.
Today we have no activity. We are only preparing for our final demo. Working on lesson plans and making learning media. In the afternoon we went to the SM mall to bought some items. We also bought a lot of chocolate for us to bring back to Indonesia as souvenirs. After going from the supermarket we went to the national book store to bought some items that we will use for our final demo. After we got all we need, we go back to the hostel.

Day 21. Sunday, February 03, 2019.
We are still continuing to make learning media for our final demo. Today ma'am Sonia and ma'am Jemma came to the hostel and cooked us a lot of food. Rice and all side dishes like fish, scallops, and salted egg are placed on banana leaves and we eat together.

After I finished eating, I continued my work, which was to improve my lesson plan. In the afternoon ma'am Sonia and ma'am Jemma bought us spicy halo-halo. Halo-halo is a Filipino dessert but this one is sprinkled with chili powder and put red chili on it.

OBSERVATION ON TEACHER

0 komentar

1.   Planning for Teaching

My Cooperating teacher at NEUST Laboratory High School is Prof. Severino C. Fortunato. He is a Physics teacher and also principal. Before teaching, he made a lesson plan based on the material he was going to teach.

2.   Preparing Lessons and Materials

There are two types of lesson plans, detailed lesson plans, and semi-detailed lesson plans. The difference between the two is in the detail lesson plan the teacher writes down all activities that will be going to do including mentioning the possible response from students. Some of the materials they have to prepare are includes: the most important are lesson plans, learning media such as powerpoint, and guidebooks. The teacher teaches according to the lesson plan he has made. Starting from greeting until giving assignments.

3.   Teaching in Class

The first time is the preliminary activity. In this part, the teacher conducts activities such as greeting, asks students to prepare them selves, prepares textbooks, asks a class leader to lead prayers, check attendance and the last gave motivation on topics to be discussed to make students more enthusiastic with the lessons. For example, the teacher will show some pictures or videos about the topic and ask students to respond to the picture/video. Sometimes, the teacher also gave a review of the topics they have learned at the previous meeting.

Then the teacher will start from the lesson proper step. In this part, the teacher presents the topic of the lesson. After that, the teacher asked students to discuss and gave some questions about the topic. Actually, after the lesson proper step there are an application step, but during my observation, I did not see my mentor teacher doing the application part. So he directly continue to the generalization part. At this part, the teacher made a review of the topic they had learned today. The teacher asks several questions and then continue to the next step, Evaluation. At this step, the teacher gives a short quiz to check the students level of understanding of this topic. The last step is giving assignments. The teacher gives assignments to students based on the material discussed today or material that will be discussed in the next meeting. The class ends with a greeting from students, they said see you again sir Fortunato.

4.   Measurement and Evaluation

The teacher gives an evaluation after finished the discussion of a chapter. The evaluation given by my teaching mentor is in the form of multiple choices or sometimes also in the form of problem-solving. The teacher also gives a short quiz when finished discussing a topic. The teacher also gives assignments to students. Sometimes students are told to draw and sometimes students are asked to learn the next material.

PEDAGOGICAL CONTENTS

1.  Teaching Method
The teaching method in junior high school is a discussion, presentation and asking-answered. The teacher can choose the method to be used during the lesson. This school uses the 2012 curriculum which prioritizes in student activity, creativity and students must be communicative. The teacher always gives questions and make group discussions to improve their ability to give opinions, creativity in thinking, and self-confidence.

2.  Learning Materials and Innovations
They use powerpoint as learning media by using laptops and projectors. For junior high school level, they are not allowed to use cellphones. As an innovation in learning, sometimes teachers also use other media such as colorful pieces of paper taped to cartons, charts, videos, and also images.

3.  Sources of Learning and Technology
As a learning resource, they use textbooks from the 2012 curriculum, sometimes teachers get reference sources from the internet. The technology they use is a computer/laptop. They make powerpoint and display during lessons with using of projectors. Students are not allowed to use electronic devices such as cellphones in class.

4.  Authentic Assessment
Based on what I observed, the basis of authentic assessment is from evaluations that are always given by the teacher each time after finished discussing a chapter. This evaluation is a benefit to measure students abilities and understanding of the material. Besides that, the teacher also takes the authentic assessment of each assignment they give. While authentic assessment in class is based on activity, attendance, performance, and behavior during learning activities.

Day 8. Monday, January 21, 2019.
The flag ceremony every Monday always starts our activities every week. Before going to NEUST Laboratory high school we attended the flag ceremony first. The ceremony always starts at 7 a.m. We also sang the Phillipinas Kong Mahal song that  Sir Chris taught us yesterday.

We went to school at 7:30 a.m. Today I have an observation schedule in 7th grade Dalton and 7th grade Newton. Sir Boyet asked me to sat on the back seat so that I could observe the class as a whole. Sir Boyet gave the same treatment in both of these classes. A greeting is the first time Sir Boyet did when he entered the class. After that sir Boyet discussed the questions about velocity and acceleration which had been completed by students at the last meeting. After finished discuss these questions, sir Boyet continue on to the next material, which is about Motion of Falling Objects. Sir Boyet gave several questions as brainstorming and then the students responded with enthusiasm. Students here are very active especially students in 7th-grade Newton.

Sir Boyet explained each formula very detail, he also made illustrated images of the formula to make students more understandable. This material about Motion of Falling Object cannot be completed immediately today, so we will still discuss this material next meeting.

After finished with observations we went back to the hostel. We had lunch and take a break. The journalistic team from campus came again to interview us. They asked several questions about this sea teacher program. After the interview, we were asked by Sir Chris to practice singing Leron-Leron Sinta songs with the acoustic group from campus. We ended the activity when the Maghrib prayer arrived.

Day 9. Tuesday, January 22, 2019.

Tuesday. Still with the same activities, observation, and teaching assists. Today we continue the material that we have not finished discussing in the last meeting about Motion of Falling Object. Sir Boyet gave many examples of questions about this material. He has written the questions on the board and then answers while explained it to students. I saw many students who were not paying attention, then I asked one of the students who was sitting in the back seat. She said that she did not understand what Sir Boyet explained, because as long as I observed, he did not pay attention. Then, I helped her to understand the questions being discussed.

From the first time I made observations, sir Boyet taught using the discourse method. This made the students less active and enthusiastic in the lesson because they are only told to listen and pay attention. But besides that, sir Boyet explained the material and examples of questions with great detail. At the end of the lesson, sir Boyet reviewed some formulas that have been explained and told that in the next meeting he would give a quiz as an evaluation of this chapter.

Finished doing the observation I went to the canteen with my buddy. I always finish first because my class is the earliest and only 2 hours every day. I waited for my friends while trying some of the food sold in the canteen. One of them I tried Arroz caldo, which is porridge mixed with chicken and some ingredients. This is my first time tried Arroz caldo and it turns out it tastes very delicious.

Day 10. Wednesday, January 23, 2019.

As sir Boyet said yesterday, today Sir Boyet will give a quiz as an evaluation of the chapter that has been explained. Sir Boyet gave students 1 hour to solve questions consisting of 7 numbers, 5 numbers in the form of multiple choices and 2 questions in the form of problem-solving. 7th-grade Newton did the same thing, they did the quiz as was done by 7th grade Dalton.

After finishing, I followed Sir Boyet to his room, the principal's room. There we discussed many things starting from the lesson plan that I would use to teach on Monday, to discuss about the questions in the quiz that were given during the evaluation. Finished discussing I had lunch with my friends in the canteen. After lunch, we go back to the hostel.

At 5 p.m. we were asked by sir Chris to learn one of the traditional Filipino dances, the name is Karinyosa. We were trained by NEUST Folkaric Danza. They want us to dance this traditional dance at the farewell party later.

Day 11. Thursday, January 24, 2019.

Still with the same activities, observation and teaching assists. First, we started from 7th grade Dalton at 7:30 a.m. Today we continue a new chapter which is about How can technology ensure safety and security. Before starting this new material, sir Boyet discussed the answers of the quiz that we had conducted in the last meeting while reviewing the material that had been taught.

In this chapter, sir Boyet used powerpoint media. He often displayed pictures as examples of the material described. The lesson ended by giving assignments to students. Students are asked to draw signs of security and safety. The same thing was done in 7th grade Newton.

After we finished, I followed Sir Boyet to his room. I showed the lesson plan I had made. He gave me some suggestions, then I fixed it.

Day 12. Friday, January 25, 2019.

Friday is a free day. Today we don't go to school because our schedule is only Monday to Thursday. We will go to Hunter Valley Plantation and Resort. We left accompanied by sir Marlon, sir Chris, ma'am Sheena, and ma'am Leah. Before arriving at the resort we pass the American Memorial Cabanatuan. We stopped there to take some pictures.

Then, we continued our journey to the resort. Actually, we went there to swim, but because there's no water in the pool, we just walked around the resort while taking pictures.

After arriving at the hostel we change our clothes and we decided to go to SM mall with ma'am Sheena. We had coffee there, then we took a walk around to buy some items. Today's trip ends with a siomay meal bought by ma'am Sheena.

Day 13. Saturday, January 26, 2019.

Ma'am Angelica Cortez, the dean of College Education invited us to go to her house. Ma'am Ange house is not far from Sumacab hostel. Sometimes we pass it when we are going to school. We went to ma'am Ange's house using a tricycle. When he arrived there ma'am Ange served us various kinds of snacks such as lumpia and turon.

From the ma'am Ange's house, we walked to the night market. We try other traditional Filipino foods, named bibingka. Foods made from flour and eggs with grated coconut. There, we also met NEUST Folkaric Danza, the group that taught us the karinyosa dance.

Day 14. Tuesday, January 27, 2019.

Today we have no activities. We just stay at the hostel,  finishing my lesson plans, wash clothes, and cook. But today we met our new friends from Indonesia. They will stay at the upstairs. They are Abdi and Tommy, students who take part in the sea t-vet program. We talk and share stories with them.
